The Sisterhood of the Ugly Pants

Sisterhood of the ugly pants

I know, I've shared this story before on Facebook and on Flickr, but it's one of my favorites. Why not share it on the blog too?

My best friend was showing me some photos from when she was a child. She's in the photo on the left with the purple coat. At the time this photo was take she was living near Akron, Ohio. I grew up near Dayton, Ohio, on the completely opposite end of the state. We didn't meet until we both went to college in Kentucky. It was not until 5 or 6 years ago that I saw this photo.
The instant I saw it I screamed, "Oh My God! Hold on!" I ran to my photo album and dug out the two photos on the right. We apparently owned the same pair of ugly pants. What are the chances?

On Snowy Mornings

You know there are days when I miss driving my VW, like this morning for example. I backed my PT Cruiser out of the driveway, shifted from reverse to drive, pressed on the gas, and nothing. Wheels spun a little. The engine revved, but no forward motion. After a minute or two of persistent attempts I made it slowly up my street. In the bug, I wouldn't have had this trouble, I also wouldn't have had any heat, and most likely my windshield would have frosted up on the inside, but that's not my point right now.

why I choose to unravel.

The other day, as I eft the house to go to work. I found these footprints leading toward my house. They startled me. I didn't recognize them. Of course my first thought was that they were my own, but the there was something not right about them. First they weren't converse which I had worn the day before. They were on the sidewalk. I normally cut through the grass. And, they looked big like boots.
Then I noticed that they stopped at the house. There wasn't a second set leading away. I back tracked them through the snow but couldn't really determine where they came from. I started creeping myself out. Who had been in front of my house, and why?
I took a few pictures and tried to analyze them some more. Then I realized something. They were my footprints from the night before. The tell tale sign was the trail off of the heel. I forgot that I slipped into a pair of clogs and I always drag my left heel.
Anyway, I laughed at myself for a little while, but later thought that's a good story to explain why I'm doing the Unraveling course. To put it simply sometimes I see little bits or traces of myself and I think. Is this REALLY me? I don't know. That's what I hope to find out. In the mean time I have to be willing to laugh at myself along the way. I'm good at that. :-)

soul searching and purging

Wow. It's only the 4th of January and already 2010 is off and running. There are so many things I'm excited about that I don't know how to logically string them all together (so hang in there with me folks.)

I, like several of my Facebook peeps, am declaring this 2010 as the year of Me. Well, what does that mean exactly? Basically, I'm starting this year by taking the time to really focus on myself for a change, not the job or the house or the dog, unless she injures herself again. I'm making this the year that I step back take a long hard look at myself and my life. The good the bad and the ugly. Try to figure out how I go to this point and figure out what direction I want to head next. I know that sounds all heavy and somewhat cryptic. It's really not.

This declaration has been a long time coming I've been tap dancing around all the issue associated with it for months, but now I want to be a bit more proactive about it. I'm starting off by taking a workshop that I'm so excited about. The name of the e-course is Unraveling. If you check out the link I don't need to explain to you why I'm drawn to it. We're just starting week one, and to be fair to Sussannah Conway I don't want to tell to much about it just yet, but I'm really excited about it.

I don't know how this is going to pan out. You may see more postings from me, or you may see less. Either way I hope to come out on the other side a better me.

PS Check out Sussanah's Blog, Ink on my Fingers. It's fantastic.
