76/365 39 and still going strong

My mom  always wrote down big events on the family calendar, like birthdays, anniversaries, when the plane crashed, and when I rode my bicycle for by myself for the first time.  She also wrote down when she and my dad made a big purchase, and each year she transferred the info over to the new calendar. As a kid I thought this was bit odd.  I mean really? Did we need to know exactly when they bought their new sofa or dad got his tractor?   But hey, who am I to judge?

On this day thirty-nine years ago, Mom and Dad should have received their brand new washer and dryer. However, the delivery had to be rescheduled because of weather.  That weather was the 74' storm outbreak that spawned the F5 tornado that practically wiped Xenia, Ohio (just 4 or 5 miles from my parent's place) off the map.

Thankfully, my parent's place received no damage from the tornado. In fact my dad used salvaged wood from the storm to build his barn.  My great-grandmother warned my mom that it's bad luck to use anything that has been through a disaster. Turns out she was right.

Meanwhile a couple of days late my mom and dad did eventually receive their new washer and dryer.   The washer was replaced over a decade ago, but the dryer is stil going strong thirty-nine years later.  A man servicing my washer took one look at it and said it was a "classic."  So if there are any classic household appliance collectors out there, I've got a deal for you.
